Cover Cleaning questions:

1.  What do you use and what process do you use to wash your covers?  Simple Green Degreaser, thoroughly rinse in water, wring out the excess water, repeat if necessary, and let the cover dry on a fence, wall, or nearby bush while I use the same Simple Green Degreaser to clean the rest of my engine bay.

2.  Can I throw the cover in the clothes dryer if I'm short on time or just don't want to wait?  Sure, BUT... if you have a graphic image on your cover, use AIR ONLY -- NO heat.  The use of heat can damage the heat transfer image.

General questions:

1.  Do you ship to Canada?  Yes, but there is a slight upcharge of $3.

2.  Can you make covers for other filter elements besides those listed?  Certainly, but it can be very time consuming.  In order to make covers to our high standards, at a minimum, there must be exact measurements provided by you.   Ideally, it would be best if you can ship a used filter so that an exact fit can be accomplished and ensured.

3.  What if I'm not happy with my cover when I get it?  First... you need to let me know right away.  I will do everything necessary to ensure that you are satisfied.  To-date, I've only had one customer who was initially not satisfied with my logo information label, but once the cover was installed he saw that the label is not visible unless you pick the filter up to look at the end.  He is now completely satisfied.  Aside from that, there may be a rare mistake made in your order because I am not anywhere near perfect, but in the several cases where this has happened, I made immediate corrections and never charge any additional shipping for the replacement cover.

4.  Do the covers restrict air flow?  Of course they do.  It would be foolish to think otherwise..... BUT, the effect on both performance and mileage is "minimal to insignificant".  The filter elements I am "covering" are all rated for much, MUCH higher air flow capacities than the stock filter, and the small impact of this open-knit fabric has not made enough difference on my truck for me (or any of my customers) to either measure it in terms of SOTP feel (Seat Of The Pants) or in mileage decreases.  However, I am in the process of planning for airflow testing on both my covers and some competitor covers, and I will post the results once they become available.

5.  Do the covers extend the life of the filter element?  Yes, they do.  Any barrier you place between the ambient air and the filter element will capture at least some of the airborne contaminants.  Just how much improved life you will experience will vary from driver to driver depending upon driving habits, ambient air conditions, etc.

6.  How fine of dust particles does the cover "prefilter"?  I cannot answer that because it has not been tested.

7.  Are the covers water resistant?  No, they are not, and I honestly do not believe that being water resistant is either necessary, helpful, nor even effective at keeping water from getting to the filter element.  Many people have repeatedly testified in Ford-trucks.com forums that they have run through frog-strangling downpours with no evidence of a wet filter once they get home.

Furthermore, think about this issue from another perspective.  Imagine your engine running down the road through either heavy rain or deep water/puddles.  In this situation, your turbo has induced a vacuum inside the air filter element.  What do you think is going to happen to water on the surface of a cover that has air being pulled through it to the inside?  Having run water from the kitchen faucet over competitor covers -- gently, mind you --which are advertised to be water resistant, and seeing water run through the cover just by gravity.... imagine what that water would do if I induced a vacuum inside the cover!  Why, it would suck the water right inside the cover to your filter element!  Perhaps not all of the water, but certainly a lot of it would go right through.  Otherwise, the water would create a hydraulic seal the exterior of the filter cover combination and potentially cause your turbo to crush the filter element!

8.  What kind of fabric are the covers made from? 100% polyester knit fabric with a very "open" knit.

9.  Can you offer fabric colors other than what you have listed?  It is possible.  If you just HAVE to have a color different from my standard offering, I can come up with a few more options, but most of the other colors are not nearly as crisp or nice looking as the several I offer.  Additionally, non-stock color options are special order, will delay shipping, and increase the cost for the cover.

10.  Can you accept credit card payments?  Only if you can process your card through Paypal.  This may change, but I have no current plans as such.

11.  Will you accept personal checks?  Only upon approval before placing the order, and then I typically wait for the checks to clear before shipping the cover.  Money orders are much simpler for me and require not "clearing time".  Business checks?  Yes.

12.  Do you offer wholesale opprtunities?  I am willing to consider this.  I have done so for a couple of customers, but orders have to have at least 10 covers per order for this discount.

13.  How long does it take to get a cover?  I generally ship within 3-4 business days.  Since this is a "spare time" activity, and I do have a family with children, there is always a potential for a delays, but I communicate delays as quickly as possible as they occur.

14.  How are the covers typically shipped out?  USPS, First Class, which is typically a 2-4 business day delivery.  If you need faster shipping, let me know when you palce the order, but please recognize that there will be an upcharge for those additional costs.

15.  Should I really get two covers to have a spare?  That depends entirely upon your desires and goals.  Some simply want the convenience of having a clean cover for a quick swap when one gets dirty.  That is a nice convenience, for sure.  Some want more than one graphic design.  I'm happy to make and sell as many covers as you want!  Typically, 2 out of 3 orders are for two covers.

Additional questions about the 6637 filter element setup.

1.  What should I do with the air temperature sensor when I remove the stock airbox?  Most people either let it ride on the wheel liner under the filter or zip-tie it to the brake master cylinder.  Mine has been riding on the wheel liner for two years without a problem, and I don't have to worry about moving it around if I'm working around the master cylinder.

2.  Should I re-install the FilterMinder in the 6637 filter element?  Personally, I don't believe so.  There have been some studies and there is also some common sense that has led me to that conclusion, and I'd be happy to share the details if you really want to dive into the subject.
